Firefox 9 Released

This morning was a nice little surprise for Firefox fans as their beloved turns 9, version 9 that is! With the release of this new version comes a touted 30% improvement to its JavaScript performance!

So far it looks like Mozilla was not playing around! Firefox does have a significant increase in performance when compared to the current leader, Google’s Chrome browser. However these increases are measured in fractions of milliseconds to the average web surfer there will be no noticeable difference. Alas Mozilla does deserve a moment in the sun, but I wouldn’t pop the champagne corks just yet as there seems to be a imminent release of Chrome from 16 to 17 which will bring its own slew of improvements!

It looks like the browser arms race is just getting good!

Google API fun

So I started playing around with the Google maps api last week to help build a physician finder for one of Forest Laboratories sites. The API so far is pretty straight forward like most of Google’s code base. However I am running into issues when I try to add in Google places to my custom map. I think it just comes from me passing in some rogue params somewhere. Going to keep playing around with the API’s a little this week and see what cool functionality I can squeeze out of them for this site.
